Portland mom Cathy Jackson isn't big on change, says Donna Temple, who nominated her best friend to win this month's Raising Maine and Bei Capelli complimentary makeover.

"Cathy is ultraconservative," Donna said, adding that she wondered how much Cathy would allow a stylist to alter her appearance. "I figured that the worst that could happen is that she'll love it!"

Cathy, a busy mother of twin 4-year-olds and a 2-year-old, was delighted. "I wanted something new and fresh, a pick-me-up, a nice change."

Plus, she said, "It's nice to relax and have someone help you to look your best – it's every girl's dream to be pampered."

A financial analyst at Preti Flaherty Beliveau & Pachios, she also serves as membership coordinator for the Greater Portland Mothers of Multiples Group, which she says is a fun group and a terrific resource.

Her twin daughters and their little sister usually go with their mom on an expedition that she calls "Family Haircut Day."

This time, when she told the twins that she was getting her hair cut solo, they were disappointed not to be going. When she reframed it to mention that her picture would be in a magazine, however, they became very excited.

Cathy was happy to be pampered by stylist Sarah Clark.

SARAH'S THOUGHTS
"I wanted to lighten and brighten her a little bit. For the cut, I wanted to bring it up and refresh the layers, to give her a change – not a big change, but one that will make a huge difference. For the color, I wanted to change the tone just a bit without a huge line of demarcation. And just for today, we'll play her up a little bit, nothing too crazy, but to make her feel special – probably using a little golden eggplant makeup to bring out her eyes."

Cathy was thrilled with the change: "I love it. It looks awesome!"

HER FAMILY'S THOUGHTS
Cathy's husband, Brian Jackson, said: "I thought it looked great. It was definitely a new look for her, and it was a good opportunity for her to try something different."
He said one of the twins wasn't so sure about her mom's new look. But her twin sister said, "I like your hair, Mommy; it looks perfect! Where's the magazine?"
