The best part of fall in Maine has got to be apple picking. For the third year in a row, Courtney and I gathered the troops at Rocky Ridge Orchard in Bowdoinham for a day of apple picking, donuts and, of course, swinging on the great big barn swing. We love to go during school hours so that we don’t have to fight the crowds.

I managed to keep the apple bag down to 1/3 full this time around (usually the kids can’t stop picking once they stop) by promising that we could come back another time or two. Even so, I made two huge apple blueberry crumb-top pies and have at least eight McIntosh apples left for snacking this week.

Perfect with a warm cup of coffee on a cool fall evening!

Such cute photos Susan! And if you get a chance, I'd love to hear your pie recipe - I'm looking for a good crumb topping recipe :)

Susan, my daughter in NC has put in her annual request for a shipment of organic Maine apples. Gotta love that! Liked this warm blog, so much a reminder of the simple and lovely things we have here in Maine. And what a happy picture!

I got lazy and dunked a pile into apple sauce, but would LOVE a piece of that crumble - yummy!
