Remembering or not

I can vividly remember most of my children’s firsts. Remembering always makes me smile.
However I am not so great at remembering the lasts. I have no memory of the last time I nursed. I don’t remember the very last time a child (most nights all three children) needed me to lay down beside them at night until they fell into a deep sleep. I still snuggle, visit , rub feet and serve tea before they go into the nights’ slumber but I don’t have to stay.
I remember the early firsts, and I don’t remember many of the lasts. That is fine. I am feeling sentimental because two years ago the four of us went trick or treating as a family for the last time and I didn’t even know it.
This year I didn’t even go trick or treating.
Alex went to a birthday/Halloween sleepover. Elise went to a birthday/Halloween sleepover. Sean and I planned to go trick or treating.
Sean dressed as a Hobo and I was Pippy Longstocking. We got A & E at their perspective party homes and on the drive home Sean announced that he really didn’t want to go trick or treating.
We got pizza, soda, a movie, and popcorn in our Halloween attire and headed home. The two of us snuggled in for the movie, played most every game in the house, laughed, talked and had a slumber party in Mom’s bed.
We got no trick or treaters so Sean got to have all of the candy I bought.
In the words of Sean, “That was the best Halloween ever.”
It was perfect but does it mean trick or treating is over?

It sounds perfect! Is trick or treating over? HA! Don't count on it. My girls took a respite from T&T when they thought they were too old and cool. A few years later they were back at it again! This year one of them hosted a Halloween party with a cousin on Friday night. Two more of my girls attended the party and my oldest daughter was in PA where she lives with her husband doing Halloween festivities there. On Saturday night my youngest (who's 20) and her cousin (who's 21) thought they'd like to go T&T and with costumes and masks nobody would know how old they were. I had to remind her that she was 6' tall and he is 6'3". I think they would stand out amongst the rest of the "kids."

Trick or treating with mom may be on its last leg. Perhaps it's time to lean towards parties. That is cool about your daughter. Did she go through with it?
