Guess who’s ready for her high school reunion? Lisa Johnson, a mom who usually wears her hair in a ponytail, is excited to show off her new look at her 15-year reunion at Massabesic
High School in Waterboro.

Lisa is the lucky recipient of the Mom Makeover of the Month, thanks to Raising Maine and Bei Capelli.

The Alfred mom, who described her former hairstyle as “pretty much no defined style, very casual and frumpy,” is more excited to go, “now that I have a hairdo.”

Bei Capelli stylist and co-owner Tiffany Conway and stylist Bethany Bartlett worked together to give Lisa a style that works with her thick, curly hair.

Tiffany’s thoughts
“Lisa has a very pretty face, and her hair has beautiful texture – the curl and the highlights. I wanted to work with her natural auburn tone to create a style that’s easier for her. A lot of times, people try to fight the texture of their hair instead of working with their natural beauty. This is a look that balances out her natural texture and the look she desires.

“I wanted to decrease the volume of her hair and focus on her eyes by molding the style and having some bangs.

“Also, I asked her if she always wears glasses because if not, the bangs would be framed differently. Just like glasses are an accessory, hair is an accessory. You need to be sure you’re creating harmony between the hair and the glasses.”

Lisa’s thoughts
“My hair is naturally curly anyway, but after having a baby, my hair has been even more unmanageable. I wanted a new look that I could maintain and would look great on a daily basis. I’ve never actually had a haircut that looks stylish, because of my hair type.”

Of her new look, Lisa said, “I love it! I really love the length. I had fun doing my hair! I can either wear it curly or blow it straight. I like leaving it curly and wearing the bangs straight.
It’s nice that I’ll be able to wear it both ways.”

Her 18-month-old son, Drew, did a double-take when she got home, she said. “But I think it was the makeup, not the hair.”

Her husband, Colin, also did a double-take. He’d never seen her with bangs, and he said it would take a little getting used to. “She looks very sophisticated,” he said.

Lisa and Colin are newly licensed foster and adoptive parents for the state, “so life will be getting even crazier,” she said. “I love my new hairstyle. It took me five minutes to do it, and it looks really cute!”
