Back in high school, Megin Hatch enjoyed making up different hairstyles, and once she even dyed her hair pink. “The best hairstyle was asymmetrical – that was really fun.”

Now, with three kids at home, it’s a challenge for the Windham mom to get a minute to herself.

“Making time for yourself is always the first thing to go, because it can be pushed down the priority list.”

The lucky recipient of the Mom Makeover of the Month said she was thrilled to be pampered and have a couple of hours “where I won’t have to be multitasking – I won’t be emptying the dishwasher, helping with homework and doing laundry.”

The makeover, compliments of Raising Maine and Bei Capelli, would inspire her to take better care of herself, she said. “Winter can be a challenge because it’s hard to get up and go. I am more likely to slip into hibernation, neglecting exercise and sticking too close to home. A makeover would be energizing and help me feel better about myself and more prepared to meet my personal goals.”

Having described her look as frumpy and boring, she said she was hoping for a new style that would be easy to take care of on a daily basis but also something she could have fun with if she felt like sprucing up.

Bei Capelli stylist Bethany Bartlett worked to give her the look she desired.

Bethany’s thoughts
“I wanted to keep this a low-maintenance change for her so that realistically, she can take care of it easily.”

She said she aimed to have it look “great with as little effort as possible.”
“As a mom of three, even if she does very little to it, she will still be able to walk out of the house and look awesome.”

Bethany cut Megin’s hair with the goal of adding height at the top to help accentuate her oval face. “The object is to use hair to elongate the face.”

Megin’s thoughts
“I love it! I look like a totally different person. When I got home and walked in the door, my daughter took one look at me and said, 'Hi Mummy, you’re bea-uuuuu-tiful!’ The boys didn’t have much to say, but they definitely cocked their heads at me.”

Her husband’s thoughts
“Her makeover was well-deserved, because Megin always puts everybody else first. I thought she looked fantastic, and it just really brightened her whole presence,” Rob Hatch said.

“Megin has a bright presence as it is, and this look really supported it and brought in that energy. I’m grateful; it was so exciting for her.”
