Buying beach towels in August

The girls were signed up to take a sewing class at our library this past week and they had to bring a beach towel. They were going to cut and sew the towel into a beach bag.

A couple of days before the class I went to WalMart in Windham to buy a beach towel. I couldn't find any and when I asked was told they were sold out.

Yup, it was the last day in July and no beach towels were in stock.

So I went to WalMart in Scarborough, Target and Christmas Tree Shops the next day, August 1.

All sold out of beach towels.

I guess I've never bought beach towels at this time of year before; I had NO idea they were so hard to find in the middle of summer.

But a bath towel the same dimensions as a beach towel did the trick for L. (in her favorite 'banana' color - she still loves monkeys) and we managed to find something for G. as well.

The girls were quite pleased with the new bags they made.

So the lesson for this entry is:

By beach towels in Maine just before the snow melts!

Or you could travel to Old Orchard Beach and visit any one of the dozen or so "beach" shops that are only open May through October. We always have beach towels here ;).

It looks like you found a great alternative, however ;). Love the bags, and Monkey looks right at home ;).
