Each month, Raising Maine and Bei Capelli gives a Maine mother a much-needed new look. This month's lucky mom is Scarborough's Nicole Marceau. Nicole is a busy mom of two and a full-time teacher. Marceau says she hasn't worn makeup since her dance recital days as a teen and she doesn't even own a hair dryer.
Can Bei Capelli and Raising Maine help this stressed-out mom achieve a new look that works with her busy lifestyle?
Stylist and co-owner of Bei Capelli, Nancy Cartonio, and stylist Caryn Cambra worked together to give Nicole an updated, fresh look she can dress up, or down, depending on how much time she has.
Nancy's Thoughts:
"We wanted to work with Nicole's natural hair - she has blonde and red mixed in with her brown. We also wanted color that would be long-lasting, something where the maintenance wasn't going to be every six weeks. So, playing off this natural color, we added light golden beige and natural copper highlights in a natural weave. It really looks as if Nicole has been at the beach all summer."
"We also cut off six inches and added tons of loose, textured layers and face-framing long bangs. This breaks up her long hair, and since she does have some wave, if she doesn't blow dry it, the wave will just enhance the shape of the cut. But she can also vamp it up with rollers if she wants a loose, tousled look. Or she can just wash-and-go, the layers are versatile enough to add body and shape, no matter how much - or little - time she spends on style."
Nicole's Thoughts:
"I love it! They really enhanced my look, but I still look like myself. Just more up-to-date, which is great. When I go to the beach, I naturally get blonde highlights, so this definitely feels natural and 'me,' but looks so fresh - like summer."
"I never go to a salon, where I have to make an appointment, and even then I only trim it about once a year, so to have an actual hair cut with shape is amazing. I love the layers; my hair is so much lighter. When I had children, the texture of my hair changed dramatically. I used to have fine hair, and now it's thick and I wasn't sure what to do with it. Now, it looks so great - I can't stop touching it!"
