By the time her daughter Penelope arrived more than a year ago, Standish mom Amy Gleason already had two other young girls to chase around. With Ava, 6, and Maezy, 3, keeping her busy, Gleason wanted a way to keep her hands free while also creating a bond with her youngest daughter, nicknamed Poppi.

She tried various slings and carriers, but didn’t find one that felt like the perfect fit. So Gleason decided to create her own.
She’s been making the Poppi Pouch for a year now, but, with help from friend, neighbor and graphic designer Kourtney McLean, launched her company and Web site in July.
“It has been so much fun and so rewarding,” Gleason said. She and McLean started off as play group moms. McLean has two daughters, Kayla, 2, and Emily, 5 months.
“I made a product she loved to use with her babies and she has her own graphic design company so together we created PoppiPouch.com,” Gleason said.
What’s so different about Poppi Pouch? Gleason custom fits each pouch to her client’s exact measurements. According to the Web site, customers should measure from their shoulder to the opposite hip. Fabric patterns available include large or small flowers, checks, stripes, scribbles or even solid black. Each Poppi Pouch sells for $39.95 and Gleason is happy to work with clients to find the right material and pattern.
